Hello again, world!

Hello, I’m Susan and this is my new, improved blog on my own domain name and using more versatile (albiet more complicated) blog software.

My current obsession is knitting, and at the moment I’m in the middle of making the Pinup Queen sweater from Stitch’n'Bitch, pattern designed by Annie Modesitt. It’s the first knitting project I have done in 17 years. So far it’s going well.

Some pertinent, personal information: I’m a serial obsessive craftsman. That means I’ll be knitting up a frenzy for a long time, and then switch to another craft for a bit – pottery, sewing, quilting, jewelry making, do it obsessively for a while, and then move on to something else. However, I will rotate and come back to knitting again.

I am constantly reading something, or even several somethings at once. I’ll see if I can keep an updated reading list on the sidebar. It will be ecelectic but also run in streaks. I’ll read a bunch of mysteries, then some romance, then some travel lit, and so forth. The book on the nightstand at the moment is Undead and Unappreciated by Mary Janice Davidson. It’s the third book in a light comedy-mystery-vampire series.

Michael is my husband. You’ll see him soon in a photo modeling his crocheted hat. I made it earlier this year and he’s had it on constantly. I have no doubts that my work is appreciated. Once Pinup Queen is finished, I will begin his sweater, though I doubt I’ll get it done before spring. He’s tall and it will be a big sweater. The pattern I plan to use is called Wondrous Woven Cables from the Knitter’s Arans and Celtics book. I’ll be using Knitpicks 100% Peruvian wool in Maple Syrup color, a rich, warm brown.

Stay tuned as I learn how to upload photos in this blog software and give updates. Now it’s time to go knit and watch one of our Horatio Hornblower DVDs.

Susan does a fantastic job at anything she sets out to do. She is very artistically inclined and it definitely shows in her work.

  • [...] This time last year I was working on Pinup Queen and talking about Michael’s sweater. Well Pinup is done, though shoved in a drawer because of the neckline problem. I pulled it out the other day and I’m still not sure if I want to bother fixing it. I just don’t like the yarn used for this pattern. The alpaca has no spring back to it so the ribbing is all flattened out. I am putting Pinup Queen down as a bust. I may rip it out and use the yarn for scarves and hats. It’s very warm and cozy soft. It’s just not a good yarn for ribbing. [...]
