The colorway that Hunter used was Mahvelous Dahling! and I have several of that color in stock, plus more to dye if we need it.

Thank you, Hunter, for such a gorgeous sock pattern!

Peaceful Morning

I paddled again at Lake Thunderbird this morning. I got onto the water at about 7:20 Am. I found a long finger at the north end of the lake that will probably turn into a stream. I wonder if it’s the outlet of the creek that I cross on the way to work every morning.

I paddled up this area and the water was as smooth as glass and the surroundings were beautiful and quiet. I passed a leatherback turtle sunning on a submerged log. There was also a heron who didn’t fly away until I was passing it. I want to go back to this area and paddle even farther up next time. I love paddling just as much as I thought I would.

All in all I was on the lake for about an hour. My arms felt the workout toward the end but I don’t think I’ll even be sore tomorrow. I hope not, I have yarn to dye!

I need to get a water-proof instant digital camera of some sort. I don’t dare risk my nice 35mm digital in a kayak.

Pattern for Stalwart Sock!

Sharon Bird of Anotherewe Knits has designed a pattern using Stalwart Sock! The pattern is called Hanging Diamonds and is available for $5 on Ravelry.

Hanging Diamonds Sock

Sharon used the color Golden Sun and if any of you would like some of that color leave me a comment or use the “Contact Us” feature on the store site. I’ll be happy to dye up a batch.

I’ve purchased the pattern and there are four ways you can make the socks, two different ways for toe-up and two different ways for cuff down depending on how you arrange the charts. I’ll be digging into my own stash of Stalwart Sock and making a toe-up version here soon.

There are two more designers working on patterns for my yarns. One for Hedonist Sock and one for Stalwart again. I’ve also got a few half-baked sock patterns here at home too. Knitting your own design is fun, but writing a pattern is not easy. I admire anyone who puts themselves out there and gives us a beautiful design. Thank you Sharon!

Maiden Voyage

I took my Kayak out this morning for the first time. We went to Sentinal Point on Lake Thunderbird and I went out onto the lake for about a 40 minute paddle. My arms are feeling it right now.

The Kayak felt good. I need to ajust the foot rests, which were too far out. I think I also need a longer paddle, but I’ll see how other kayakers have theirs set up before buying anything else.

It was fun! It was reletively quiet on the lake at 8:30 Am. I should have gone even earlier, but I did want to get some coffee into me first. It was not that busy yet for Memorial Day Weekend.

I am taking two days off after my birthday on Wednesday, June 9th. I plan to get more paddling in during the week when the lake should really be quiet. Weather permitting, of course.

Kayak!

It’s all set up and ready to paddle!

susans-kayak

Michael made the trailer stand himself which saved us a ton of money. A kayak trailer would cost more than the kayak itself. And do you KNOW how hard it is to get tags for a kayak? How much red tape I had to go through just to get OTC their money? OMG!

Hint, if you get a boat, go to Robin at the Quail Springs Tag Agency (they’re in the phonebook). She’ll hook you up.

It’s all set up and ready to sail for Memorial Day weekend. I heard that Thunderbird was closed down for the weekend because the water is too low. We’ll see about that. Hopefully the next picture you see will have me in it in the water!

I Survived!

It’s been a disasterous week, or at least the first half of it was.

Monday our poor outside kitty, Scarface, a former abuse case, got hit by a car and killed. I found him as I was on my way to work.

Then Monday evening tornadoes hit in the area and knock out our electricity. We’re out in the country, which means we’re all electric. No power means no toilets. Life gets reduced to basics really really quickly.

Tuesday still no power.

Wednesday I fell down some steps at work and sprained my ankle. It’s not serious, but I get to sit in my chair all weekend with my foot propped up and iced to reduce swelling. Thankfully it doesn’t hurt much.

Wednesday night the power finally comes back on at 11 PM. Thunderstorms roll through in the early morning and I have a hard time sleeping. Same on Thursday night.

Now Saturday morning it’s calm, I’ve finally slept well. Life is looking better already!

We’re Fine

Tornadoes hit in our section of the country last night. One a few miles north, and another a few miles south of our house. We were not hit, and don’t even have wind or hail damage. However, many power lines are down in the area and we’re without power. It went down Monday night at about 6 PM and is still out today, the next day.

We’ve got the freezer and fridge and tv hooked to a generator, and I’m taking showers at the YMCA. We’re good to go. Thankfully there are not a LOT of lines down, so I’m confident that they’ll get thing up and running fairly quickly.

The store site is up and running but shipping orders will be delayed until we can log the sale and print invoices again.

Maybe I’ll have a whrilwind sale after this is all over with! :) Stay tuned.

Cookie A’s Sock Class

Here is the sock I began in Cookie A’s Top Down Sock Design class last week at SWAK’s Knit Out:

Billie Jean Sock Progress

I am very happy with it so far. The design is a simple lace repeat which looks lacy stretched out and ribbed when drawn in. I like it so far. I’m naming the design Billie Jean after the yarn colorway.

The class was very good. Cookie went into a lot of detail on how to adjust a pattern repeat to fit on a sock, with lots of examples. She passed socks around class that were used in her book.

I gave her some yarn which she fondled and rubbed on her face. I think she liked them! :) If you have a chance to take a class with her, be sure to do it. It’s worth it.

What's Taking Place?

What have I been up to lately? Not a whole heck of a lot. Well, I have been reading like a starving woman at a buffet. I don’t know if it’s just because I got a Kindle finally or if I have just missed it after listening to audio books for so long.

You know what the cool thing about having a Kindle is? You can LOOK UP the books you’ve read. So if i want to recommend a book to someone, and I’ve forgotten it (which I normally do, my memory being the Swiss cheese it is) then I can FIND the book I’m talking about. So nice!

I’ve read 50-some books since the end of January. I kid you not. 50. I’m off the rails right now.

What else? Well! I have ordered a kayak! I’ve wanted one for a few years now and I was thinking just the other day that I think this summer I can afford one finally… and then LLBean had a Outdoors Acessories Sale. Apparently a kayak is considered an outdoor accessory, so I jumped on one at 20% Off. It should show up in a few days. I bought a 12′ single Kayak, touring style, which comes with the double paddle. It is bright yellow/orange/red, just like a colorway of my yarn, hehe.

Next Tuesday I head to Atlanta, Georgia, to visit my brother Long and his family. I have not seen my niece and nephew for three years now. That’s a long time in little kid’s lives. I am looking forward to it so much. I’ll be able to update from their place if I am awake for it. Living with them is awesome, but intense.

So that’s a quickie update. Not a whole lot of knitting going on other than working on my lil green sock I showed you earlier.

Knit on!
